Accommodation description

The fully double glazed apartment is ideal for up to 6 people - a additional person could use a camp bed in the lounge area - rent on site.


Bedroom 1 - double bed - en-suite with bath/shower, handbasin, bidet and wc.

Bedroom 2 with twin single beds.

Bedroom 3 with twin single beds.

Bathrooms: 2 - one en-suite to Bedroom 1 - see above - and a second fully tiled family bathroom with large shower cubicle, hand basin, & wc.

Kitchen: Fully equipped kitchen, including electric cooker, fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle, etc.

Utility area: in an alcove adjacent to the front door, there is a fully plumbed washing machine, plus ironing board & iron etc.

Living area: the spacious lounge/diner has a 3 piece suite and 4 place dining table and chairs. There is TV that shows Portuguese TV Channels in the lounge with the DVD player (There is also a system that allows viewing of many UK TV channels currently)

Balcony: The apartment has a large first floor balcony accessible via the double glazed lounge door. Tables and seating available for dining "al fresco".

Bedlinen & towels provided, including beach towels (linen/towel change once a week. Maid service not provided but can be arranged if required - ask reception for quote ).

Families with young children should be aware that the main lounge area of the property opens directly onto the large balcony, which (being built on the side of a hill) is at first floor level on that side of the apartment. The balcony has a solid almost waist high solid front that will ensure childrens safety (as long, of course, as they are not allowed to climb on a chair!)

The village, with its restaurants and beach is a couple of minutes (400 metre) walk down a fairly steep hill, but there is parking if it is necessary for someone to be driven into the village because of poor mobility.

The apartment entrance is on the same level as the roadway/parking area, with just five steps to gain access. It is therefore acceptable for the less able bodied, although it is not suitable for wheelchair access. The remainder of the complex is accessible via stairs, including the pool area.

Swimming Pool

This apartment has pool rights, thus all guests have free use of the large shared pool area, which also offer extensive sunbathing areas and free sun loungers, and a separate baby pool.

The pool area has a card operated security gate to ensure its use solely by those apartments having purchased pool rights for their guests.

Whilst the palm trees (pictured) are no longer there, for shade there are a large number of fitted rafia topped sun-shades around the sun terrace to provide guests with shade from the sun if required. For those that prefer not to be shaded, there is also a large area that allows unshaded sun-bathing that receives the benefit of any cooling breeze instead.

Important notes on accommodation

Whilst not fully air conditioned, the apartment (having another above) remains quite cool in summer, and is quick to warm in winter. There are electric fans and electric fires should they be needed, and there is also a portable air conditioning unit that can be used.

Changeover day is flexible, as are booking durations (subject to minimum specified rental periods, or adjustment of rate for shorter periods if agreed with owner).

The apartment is available from 4pm on arrival day and must be vacated by 10am on departure day.

Notes on prices

Prices are for the property per night in Euros. An additional exit cleaning fee of 70 Euros is added to each booking. Bookings of 14 or more days - Discounted by 10% (except July to Sept) Long winter lets may be acceptable by negotiation - contact owner to discuss. (ask for price). Dates falling in two payment periods charged at the daily rate according to the nights in each period.

Normally payments in Euros are by bank transfer, but payments via Paypal can be accepted if preferred (subject to a 3.4% surcharge)

Hire periods of less than the specified minimum will normally only be by special arrangement.

10% non-refundable deposit is payable at the time of booking. Balance no later than 8 weeks before arrival date.

Why this location?

Situated on the edge of a national park area, Salema is little more than a slightly developed fishing village, and yet it still retains its unique and friendly charm. Fishing still plays a major part in village life. The club itself has everything for a family holiday - a small bar, a snack bar (which also sells daily essentials), plus the excellent communal pool. The staff are friendly, and everyone is always made to feel most welcome. The village boasts 11 restaurants, ranging from snack bars, through Portuguese speciality to international cuisine, all of which are excellent and reasonably priced. For all this, it is just 20 minutes drive from a major town with nightlife and shopping, and the magnificent Parque de Floresta championship golf course is just 5 minutes drive away.

What are the unique benefits of the property?

The main property is spacious, has three good sized bedrooms, and large lounge, and is well equipped. The balcony is larger than most, and ideal for dining al fresco.There is TV in the lounge for use with the DVD player (including a system that allows viewing of many of the UK TV channels, as well as Portuguese TV channels currently), and even wifi for those that require access to the internet whilst away (ask for security codes).

It is just 400 yards from one of the most spectacular beaches in the Algarve, and yet just a short drive from some beautiful, secluded, and almost deserted coves and beaches that the western Algarve is famous for. The adjacent National park is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and is excellent for country walks for those more energetic visitors. About the Owners

John & Christina Willis

I am 70, semi-retired but working as a freelance flying instructor, and live in Biggin Hill, just south of London. I am married to Christina, who jointly owns the property with me, and we have two daughters, ages 23 and 20. I also have a daughter aged 39. I had been coming to the Salema Beach Club since the early 80's, and all three children have learned to swim in the pool in the complex. I bought a timeshare in the complex some 29 years ago (the single bedroom apartmnent also featured on this website), so Salema is very much a second home for myself and my family. On selling my businesses in 2005, I satisfied a major ambition, and bought this three bedroom apartment for our family enjoyment into my retirement.

Many of our friends that I have introduced to Salema have also fallen in love with it, and many return year after year with their families.
